Ultra-High Pressure Gauge: DR3710A Eliminates Scrap
The hydraulic press was cycling slower. The analog gauge read steady pressure, but every part was out of spec. The needle wasn’t moving—but the pipe was screaming. At ultra-high pressures (1600-2500 bar), analog Bourdon tubes operate at their mechanical limit. They can drift under prolonged stress due to metal fatigue and hysteresis, leading to inaccurate readings. In our case, pressure spikes were causing the analog gauge to lag, masking true conditions and resulting in defective parts.
I replaced the faulty analog gauge with the DR3710A ultra-high pressure digital gauge. Its digital sampling at 1000Hz captures every spike accurately, providing real-time data. The solid-state sensor design eliminates mechanical fatigue, offering consistent readings without drift. Unlike Bourdon tubes that rely on elastic deformation, the DR3710A uses a strain gauge or piezoelectric sensor bonded to a diaphragm, ensuring no moving parts and long-term stability.
With the new DR3710A, we reduced scrap costs by $25,000 per month. Accurate pressure measurement allowed us to optimize cycles and eliminate faulty parts. The peak-hold function helped identify maximum pressure during each cycle, enabling fine-tuning of the hydraulic system.
