The Problem: Analog Gauges Miss Critical Pressure Spikes

At a remote offshore drilling site, everything seemed fine until the pressure readings began to show irregularities. The display appeared normal, but the engineer noticed subtle inconsistencies in the recorded values. During an upgrade project at the XYZ facility, we encountered unexpected behavior from our analog pressure gauges. They struggled to keep up with sudden changes in ultra-high pressure conditions, often lagging behind by as much as 1 Hz or more. This discrepancy became particularly noticeable during rapid depressurization events, where the analog needle failed to capture critical peaks.

Why Analog Gauges Fail Under Dynamic Conditions

The Bourdon tube acts as a mechanical low-pass filter, physically incapable of responding to pressure changes faster than its natural frequency (1-2 Hz). In contrast, digital sampling at 1000 Hz captured these peaks that the analog needle missed. For ultra high pressure digital gauge applications, this lag can mean missing a pressure spike that could indicate a safety hazard or process inefficiency.

The Solution: DR3710 Digital Pressure Transmitter

To address this issue, we installed DR3710 digital pressure transmitters across the facility. This 2500bar pressure measurement device offers a response frequency of 3.2 kHz, ensuring no transient event goes undetected.
